Hon. Donaldson Romeo Appeals to UK Secretary of State for Urgent Life and Economy Saving Action Regarding Montserrat's Air Travel

Former Premier of Montserrat and Opposition Member, Honourable Donaldson Romeo, has written to the United Kingdom Secretary of State, outlining the severe risks to the lives and economy of Montserrat.

According to a release made available to ZJB newsroom, Mr. Romeo stated that he wrote to David Lammy on August 4th, 2024, discussing the unresolved safety issues, and the current limitations on air and sea access to the island, and requested actions to be implemented immediately.

Ministry of Health on Montserrat on High Alert for Mpox

The Ministry of health here is on high alert after the recent announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO) that the recent mpox outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern.

The WHO stated that the outbreak started in the Democratic Republic of Congo and has spread to other African countries.

And even though no cases of mpox have been reported in the Caribbean to date, the Ministry of Health has said that it will leave no stone unturned per adventure the virus reaches Caribbean shores.

St. Anthony Lodge Donates $3,000 to Social Services Department

On Monday, August 19th and true to form, St Anthony Lodge a fraternal organization, registered Friendly Society and Non-Profit Organization in Montserrat handed over a Cheque for $3,000 to the Acting Director of the Department of Social Services, Barbara Bass.

The cheque represents the Lodge’s 2024 donation to its adopted charity of “supporting children in need going back to school” in the coming school year.
