St. Anthony Lodge Donates $3,000 to Social Services Department
On Monday, August 19th and true to form, St Anthony Lodge a fraternal organization, registered Friendly Society and Non-Profit Organization in Montserrat handed over a Cheque for $3,000 to the Acting Director of the Department of Social Services, Barbara Bass.
The cheque represents the Lodge’s 2024 donation to its adopted charity of “supporting children in need going back to school” in the coming school year.
Current Master of the Lodge Barry Carlisle Williams handed over the cheque to Ms. Bass at the department’s offices in the Social Security building at the E. Karney Osborne Building inLittle Bay.
As usual, the money will be used to provide clothing, books, transport and school meals for vulnerable children who will be returning to school in September.
Williams states that the Lodge is aware that there are people in need in the community and has an obligation to do things properly.
He says they are pleased with the work of Social Services in carrying out the relevant assessment and to make the awards using accepted criteria.
The Lodge Master says the brotherhood prides itself in serving others and this effort is one of the tangible and public ways in which they do so.
On receiving the contribution, Ms. Bass thanked the organization on behalf of the Director of Social Services, Teresina Fergus for its annual commitment to helping vulnerable children on Montserrat.
She further states that the disbursement will be done in time for the start of the new school year, and hopes other individuals and organizations would follow the example of St Anthony Lodge in supporting people in need.
Treasurer of the Lodge Mr Albrun Semper, members Mr. Kenneth Silcott and Mr. Peter W A White were also in attendance
