Montserrat’s New Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner Now On Island
The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) and the Programme Management Office (PMO) have confirmed that Montserrat’s first-ever Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner has arrived on island.
The Philips 64 Slice scanner will help to confirm patient diagnoses, improve early detection of a range of medical conditions, reduce the need for overseas diagnostic referrals, and ultimately save lives.
When the new hospital facility is complete, the CT Scanner will be relocated to its permanent home in a specially designed imaging suite.
The scanner will be safely stored until enabling works are completed at the hospital site. The containerized unit is scheduled to be delivered and installed on the site in January of 2024, after which the CT Scanner will be transferred and commissioned into the unit.
Systems integration and staff training will follow the commissioning, prior to the service being made available to the public later in 2024.
This major new piece of diagnostic equipment was funded by the Foreign Commonweath and Development Office (FCDO)’s Improving Essential Equipment Programme, and procured by the PMO on behalf of MOHSS from regional imaging technology experts, International MedX.
The CT scanner is one part of a range of investments in medical equipment to improve diagnostic capability and outcomes for patients. Montserrat saw the arrival of the new PlanMed 3D Mammography earlier this year.
Other equipment funded by the FCDO business case, including crash carts, a neonatal transport incubator, and a new oxygen generating plant, have also been successfully procured.
