A Local Tour Operator Calls on Tourism Workers to Get Vaccinated

The tourism sector is unlikely to return to a semblance of normalcy unless Montserrat’s vaccination rate improves.

That’s the view of tour operator and businesswoman Roselyn Cassell Sealy.

She says cruises are reluctant to visit unless more taxi men, tour operators and other sector workers become vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Eastern Caribbean economies are highly tourism driven.

According to the ECCB, direct contribution of tourism to GDP in some countries ranges between 15 and 20 per cent.

While countries like the Commonwealth of Dominica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines lost a fraction of their market share between 2000 and 2009, Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis along with Anguilla recorded the largest average growth rates over the period.

Dominica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines experienced slower rates.

Grenada, Montserrat, and Anguilla have managed the best average performances since 2009, with Montserrat and Grenada recording some significantly impressive years.
