Cabinet Extends Curfew to February 1

Montserrat’s Leader of Government Business the Honourable Joseph Farrell has announced that the current curfew measures in place have been extended to February 1st.

The curfew from 8PM to 5AM was introduced on January 3rd to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections.

In a statement on ZJB Radio Premier Farrell said Cabinet met and after careful consideration with input from the ministry of health the decision was taken.

He says although the health staff have indicated that the COVID-19 situation is somewhat under control there is still a need to further reign in the cases which currently stand at 65.

Premier Farrell said schools will remain closed until February 1st.

He expressed concern that some children are among those who have been infected.

Premier Farrell acknowledged that some businesses are affected by the curfew but stated that the restrictive measures are designed to protect the entire population.

Meantime,

the Office of the Deputy Governor announced that the period of remote and flexible working for public officers will continue up until Monday January 31st.

The announcement was made in a circular issued on Friday.

It said, effective Monday 17th January to Monday 31st January, the standard opening hours for government services offered to the public will be 9 am to 2 pm daily.

Public Officers are being encouraged to continue to observe all COVID-19 related precautions to include the wearing of face coverings and minimizing contact with other persons.

Further communication would be issued to advise on arrangements beyond Monday 31st January.
