A Long-standing Ban on Citrus Fruits Importation here Has Been Lifted

The government of Montserrat has officially lifted its long-standing ban on citrus fruit imports.

Minister for Agriculture Honourable John P. Osborne made the revelation Thursday morning saying it aims to improve public health and address agricultural challenges.

Minister Osborne says while the new policy allows for the importation of citrus in commercial quantities, discussions are ongoing regarding how individual imports will be handled.

The ban, which was originally put in place under the Plant Protection Act, sought to prevent the spread of citrus greening disease—a devastating plant infection that has significantly impacted citrus production worldwide.
