Rotary Club of Montserrat Expands Peace Pole Initiative in Local Schools
The Rotary Club of Montserrat has erected two peace poles at primary schools on the island.
On Friday, the Rotary Club planted peace poles at the Lookout Primary School and the St. Augustine Primary School under president Keri Matthew.
A peace pole was previously planted at the Brades Primary School in 2024 under president Yvette Lee, and at the Montserrat Secondary School in 2023 under president Jenzil Skerritt.
District Governor of Rotary District 7030, Debbie Roopchand from Trinidad and Tobago, was present for the occasion. Speaking with ZJB News, Roopchand explained the purpose of peace poles.
She also discussed the importance of promoting peace among school students.

Roopchand is passionate about peacebuilding. She has served as chair of the District 7030 Peace Committee among many other key roles in Rotary at the Club and District levels.
Roopchand also served as Peace Chair on the Rotary Club of San Fernando South Trinidad and Tobago Club Board. Her annual Rotary contribution of $1000 USD goes to Rotary’s area of focus “Peace building and Conflict Prevention”.
