The Government says it is making a commitment to boost the social housing sector on the island.
It is increasing access to affordable housing for low and middle income individuals and by increasing and improving social housing stock, while making them resilient to disasters and climate change.
To demonstrate this commitment, the government states that over the past year it completed rehabilitation works on 51 homes in Lookout and Shinnlands to the tune of 1.2 million dollars.
This means that residents are now much more comfortable and safer, and vulnerable persons can now reenter their apartments.
Additionally, the MCAP administration says it received 1.3 million dollars as part of the CIPREG programme, for corrective maintenance of government housing stock which will continue to bring housing up to minimum decent housing standards.
Premier the Honourable Joseph Farrell says of great significance, was the approval of funding of $1.5 million for the development of phase 1 for Drummonds Social Housing development.
This will fund the construction of two (2) new housing units and some surrounding road and infrastructural works.
Meantime, Minister responsible for housing, Honourable Crenston Buffonge, says a significant amount of resources were channeled into ensuring individuals own their homes , and to assist the vulnerable in the community.
