Government Leaders Respond to the Island’s Ongoing Fuel Challenges
Even though adequate supplies of fuel products are on island, motorists and other consumers are having difficulty in accessing fuel to conduct their daily duties.
Meanwhile In a radio statement Thursday morning, Premier , the Honourable Joseph Farrell responded to the ongoing challenge faced by residents with the unavailability of petrol and diesel at the pumps.
He stated that both retailers (A&F Service Centre and Osborne Service Center) and Delta want an increase in their retail margin and that the government is working towards an amicable solution to the situation.
According to Premier Farrell, currently, delta receives $1.75 per gallon as their margin while the retailers get $1.00 per gallon.
He is requesting that the retailers reconsider their actions while the government works to resolve the situation.
The premier expresses his sympathy to the retailers but notes that increasing their margin would mean increasing gas prices, a decision that would affect all stakeholders.
He went on to share some details of the communication Among the government, Delta, and the retailers.
Meanwhile, leader of the Parliamentary opposition, Honorable Paul Lewis, expressed his frustration with the ongoing situation.
He said that if an amicable settlement were not reached as soon as possible, the negative impacts on the economy and people of Montserrat would be significant.
