Upcoming Financial Information Month Activities Discussed

Financial Information Month 2023 (FIM) is continuing with a range of activities in the coming weeks.

The week got off to an appropriate start with a Church service at the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Brades on Sunday October 1st.

Country manager at the Montserrat agency office of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Angela Estwick, took to ZJB radio Thursday morning to discuss the events planned for the month.

Events for Thursday included the radio discussion as well as three radio quiz questions with monetary prizes for primary school students, secondary and college students, and adults.

A t-shirt day is also planned for Friday, the first of four, when members of various financial institutions will be wearing their FIM t-shirts.

Miss Estwick also shared information on the upcoming investment series which will begin on October 16th comprising interactive radio discussions and forums.

The signature event of the Month is the FIM 2023 public speaking competition.

Students from the Montserrat Secondary School and the Montserrat Community College will be addressing the topic, “should financial literacy be made a mandatory part of the school curriculum.”

Representative from the Bank of Montserrat Limited, Meliek Richards, explained the importance of this event.

Financial Information Month has been celebrated since 2002. This month also marks the 40th anniversary of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU). The theme for this year is “Wealth Creation for Financial Resilience”, with each island having its own sub themes.
