Montserrat’s Premier clarifies Terms concerning the Acquisition of a Ferry for the next Five Months.
Montserrat’s leader of Government business has moved to clear up any misunderstand where fares for the newly-acquired ferry service is concerned.
Premier, the Honourable Joseph Farrell has stated that the fares for the ferry service between Montserrat and Antigua from November 2023 to March 31, 2024 are heavily subsidized and include all taxes.
There has been much public debate as to how the fares were arrived at with some people stating that the fares are on the high side, but Premier Farrell emphasized that contracting a ferry is a very expensive venture stressing, however, that government is looking at the public good.
Premier Farrell appeared recently on Radio Montserrat (ZJB) to announce the signing of the contract between the Government of Montserrat and NAVIYUC S. A. de C.V to operate the V2V Empress Vessel to begin passenger ferry service between Montserrat and Antigua for the 5 month period November 2023 to March 31st 2024.
V2V Empress is a Belize flagged Vessel based in Progresso, Mexico.
The service will operate for five days per week during the off-peak period, and operate a 6-day schedule during peak periods in December 2023 and March 2024.
The schedule will also include a number of Day Tour operations to Antigua and Nevis with the possibility for travel from Antigua to Nevis or Nevis to Antigua with a short stay-over in Montserrat.
