Montserrat Joins the Region Observing Caribbean Statistics Week
Caribbean Statistics Day is still relevant.
That statement coming from Chief Statistician, Siobhan Tuitt, as Montserrat joined the rest of the region in observing Caribbean Statistics Day on Sunday October 15.
The 15th Annual Caribbean Statistics Day will be held under the theme ‘One Voice, One CARICOM: Everyone Counts’ and the local theme focusing on the Population and Housing Census that is ongoing here currently.
Ms. Tuitt says there is a need to continue to highlight the importance of statistics and the crucial role it plays on the development of lives.
She encourages all members of the public to visit the Statistics Department on Thursday, October 19 from 12:00p.m-4:00p.m for an Open Day to learn more on the operations of the department , specifically the Population and Housing Census and to collect some 2023 Census treats.
Caribbean Statistics Week began October 15. Upcoming activities and events for the week include statements from the Secretary General of CARICOM and Director General of the OECS on Monday; a visit to the Montserrat Community College from the department, to talk to some students about the Population and Housing Census on Tuesday.
A panel discussion on the importance of the census will be held Wednesday October 25th on ZJB Radio Montserrat, 8pm, with moderator Deonne Semple and special guests Angela Greenaway, Teresina Bodkin, Kenya Lee, Angela Estwick, Laverne Rogers-Ryan and Siobhan Tuitt.
The Open Day and radio quiz giveaway will be held on Thursday 19th and; Friday October 20th, the release of the 2019-2022 Statistical Compendium.
Meantime… Director General of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States- OECS, Dr. Didacus Jules, says that statistics is a vital tool to safeguard communities and propel regional development.
