A Strong Case for a Return to Twin Otter Air Service between Montserrat and Antigua at the Public Access Hearing
The Managing Director of SVG Air is making a strong case for a return to the twin otter aircraft providing airlift between Montserrat and Antigua.
While providing evidence to the special hearing on access by sea and air for Montserrat, Paul Gravel said the original plan after the Loss of the W. H. Bramble airport to the volcano, was twin otter operations
He is suggesting strongly that the stakeholders go back to the original plan.
Mr Gravel says that all over the world, the twin otter is a utility aircraft. He adds that the aircraft is a STOL aircraft and should be operated as such if the situation warranted its use.
Mr Gravel says Montserrat fits the bill for the use of this type of aircraft
Mr Gravel also spoke to the safety issue at the aerodrome in Montserrat.
He said not having 24 hour security at the J. A. Osborne Airport is a disaster waiting to happen.
Meantime, appearing before the special access committee, then John A. Osborne Airport project manager, Honourable Claude Hogan revealed that the original airport design didn’t have any start and end with a RESA in mind.
He gave an historical perspective as to the physical design of the airport.
