Rotary Club of Montserrat Rehabilitates House in Sweeney's
The Rotary Club of Montserrat continues to assist in improving the livelihood of vulnerable persons on Montserrat.
The club, last weekend, completed it’s 2nd enhancement of a residential building within the Sweeney’s community.
As part of the renovation, the timber-framed home saw the removal of deteriorated galvanized roofing replaced with new sheets, external doors replaced, window casings replaced, the building and staircases primed and painted, large pieces of debris within the surrounding area removed, and the yard cut and raked.
The home improvement was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Montserrat in conjunction with a number of businesses and public sector entities after the club saw the need for additional support in the area after restoring an adjacent home that had shown deterioration.
2021-2022 President of the Rotary Club of Montserrat, Ms. Siobhan Tuitt said enhancing the Montserrat community is really something the club values.
Tuitt said having enhanced one of the adjacent homes last year, they saw it fit to support another in the area this year.
She said the club would love to do a lot more in this area of community development, but for now, they will continue to do what they can with what resources are available.
The contractor for the project, Mr. Neville Blake of Neville Blake Construction, who assisted the club last year, said his team loves to help the Montserrat community whenever they can and was happy to donate what materials they could and assist in the construction and painting elements.
The enhancement of this home falls within Rotary International’s Area of Focus: Economic &; Community Development.
As a non-profit organization, the Rotary Club of Montserrat is one of 74 service clubs within the regional District 7030.
