Former Speaker Calls for the Recognition of Women in Parliament
Former Speaker Shirley Osborne has called for the work of women in laying the foundation for Montserrat’s democracy to be recognized.
Osborne states that it took great courage not only from the men but courageous women, whose struggle and determination contributed to the installation of the first Legislative Council in 1952.
Her comments were made as Montserrat celebrates 70 years of parliamentary democracy.
In a message to mark the occasion, Ms. Osborne says the struggle of the women in particular needs to be highlighted.
