Montserrat Observes World AIDS Day

As Montserrat joined the global observance on World Aids Day, the Ministry of Health used to occasion to reflect how far the island has come since December 1st, 1988 when the day was first observed.

Appearing on ZJB Radio Thursday morning, Health Promotions Coordinator, Penney Maloney said Montserrat has made significant strides to date.

She said that up until recently, people were dying from the disease because it was not fully understood.

Mrs Maloney is however urging residents to be vigilant to further reduce the spread of the disease.

She says that it has become noticeable, based on data, that persons are not as careful as they should be, resulting in an increase in new cases on island.

Meantime... Ashton Daly, a Montserratian who has previously worked with the Department of Health in New York as an HIV counselor, says persons should still take HIV prevention seriously, despite the improvement of medications for the disease.
