Acting Minister for Health Says CT Scanner To be Secured Before New Hospital is Built
Acting Minister for Health, Honourable Veronica Dorsette Hector, says the CT Scanner funded by the British Government will be secured before the new hospital is built.
Mrs. Dorsette Hector says the procurement process has already started and the equipment is expected on island in 2023, although she could not give a specific date.
Responding to questions in Parliament posed by the Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, Honourable Paul Lewis, she also stated that persons on island will be trained to use the CT Scanner.
Honourable Lewis was concerned that the maintenance of the CT Scanner. However, the Acting Minister outlines that a maintenance contract will be a key component of the procurement process, which is customary with large pieces of medical equipment.

The CT Scanner is part of a 3 million pound investment announced by the UK Government for essential equipment.
The money will also provide a foam fire engine for the airport, a new two megawatt generator to provide greater resilience to the Montserrat Utilities Limited’s energy provision across Montserrat, and additional health service support including a 3D mammography unit, oxygen generator, emergency room and incubator equipment, and a medical incinerator.
