A Political Scientist says Antigua’s Decision to Ban Unvaccinated Travellers Can be Justified on Public Health Grounds

Political Scientist Claude Hogan, has sought to shed some clarify on the lawfulness of Antigua’s Prime Minister Gaston Brown’s recent policy decision, as it relates to CARICOM and regional integration.

The Antigua and Barbuda Government on September 15th announced that as of October 1st only vaccinated passengers are allowed travel to that country.

This he says also goes for in-transit passengers to Montserrat.

This has since sparked local discussions on the topic regarding the prime minister’s decision to take such actions without speaking to the 15-member Caribbean Community grouping.

Hogan who is a member of the legislative assembly, said on the breakfast show on Thursday there are a number of grounds on which CARICOM countries can close their borders without consultation.

Public health and safety, he says, is one them.
