Montserrat’s Ministry of Health Grappling with the Delta Strain of the COVID-19 Virus on Island
Chief Medical Officer Dr Shara Greenaway-Duberry has confirmed that the COVID-19 Delta Variant has made it’s way to the island’s shores.
This was revealed in a Ministry of Health Press Conference Thursday Morning.
Dr Greenaway-Duberry said the variant was discovered via a sample testing conducted by the Caribbean Public Health Agency…CARPHA.
She was unable to confirm whether or not the COVID-19 Delta Variant case has recovered.
The Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced another case, bringing the island’s overall total to 4 active cases.
All the imported cases were detected via the testing protocol used for persons arriving to the island.
Despite this, Dr Greenaway-Duberry says the Ministry of Health has not yet detected any signs of local transmission, therefore at this time the risk of community spread is low.
