Montserrat's CMO Encourages "Herd Immunity" in Fight Against COVID-19 as Second Batch of Vaccines Arrive
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Shara Greenaway-Dubbery says “herd immunity” is important in the island’s fight against COVID-19.
Herd immunity occurs when a large portion of a community becomes immune to a disease, making the spread of that disease from person to person, unlikely.
Dr Greenaway says herd immunity would reduce the level of effect the disease has on patients, thus resulting in less strain on the health sector.
As Such, the CMO says the Ministry is looking at an above 60-70% vaccination rate
