Derelict Yacht to be Removed From Piper's Pond

Manager of the Montserrat Port Authority…. MPA Joseph O’Garro has confirmed that plans are afoot to remove the derelict yacht at Piper’s Pond.

The yacht, owned by Wendy Steed, has been described as an eyesore since it was dragged their after it ran aground in late 2018.

O’Garro says the owner, is ultimately responsible for the yacht, and she has given assurance she is working on relocating the vessel.

Mr. O’Garro reveals that preliminary plans for the removal have been sent to the MPA.

He says that as Receiver of Wrecks, the Montserrat Port Authority could only assist the owner in salvaging the vessel as provided for in Section 4 of the Receivers of Wreck legislation.

Meantime, concerns have raised in social media and on ZJB radio about the continued presence of the yacht in the Piper’s pond area.

Speaking on the “What’s on Your Mind” radio programme earlier this week, Captain Howes believes the yacht should be used to support one of Montserrat’s artificial reefs.
