Hon. Veronica Dorsette Hector Calls For More Breast Cancer Awareness

Parliamentary Secretary the Honourable Veronica Dorsette Hector has called for efforts to continue in the fight against breast cancer.

In delivering the keynote address at the annual Pink Ribbon Walk on Saturday, Mrs. Dorsette Hector noted the support of many individuals and groups.

She stated that the Pink Ribbon Charity is an important cause that is saving lives, by making mammogram services available to women in Montserrat, and increasing awareness of the disease.

The charity walk on Saturday brought an end to another successful Breast Cancer Week.

Highlights of the week included information sessions on radio and online aimed at raising awareness of the disease that is the most common cancer in women and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women.

More than 462,000 women are newly diagnosed and approximately100,000 women die from breast cancer each year.

This is expected to increase by 34% in the Americas by 2030, if current trends continue.
