The Environmental Health Department Throws its Full Backing Behind a PAHO Initiative to Help Reduce Mosquito-borne Diseases

With the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) predicting a rise in mosquito borne diseases, the Environmental Health Department here has expressed concern about breeding sites.

According to PAHO, while social distancing measures are in place, households should be encouraged to work together in and around their homes to get rid of stagnant water, reduce and dispose of solid waste, and to ensure proper covering of all water storage containers.

It is a message endorsed by Principal Environmental Health Officer Garrett Stanley.

There has been a 10 per cent increase in mosquito borne diseases in Montserrat, so far this year, compared to the same period in 2019.
