No Active COVID-19 Cases on Montserrat as of December 23rd 2020

It is official, Montserrat currently has no active cases of the dreaded corona virus, COVID-19.

This was confirmed in the latest dashboard published by the Government Information Unit, issued on Thursday.

The GIU says as of Wednesday December 23 2020, Montserrat continued to record 'no active' COVID-19 case.

This welcome news comes as there was speculation in local circles that there could have been an imported case of the virus.

There are currently 97 persons in quarantine, as persons travelling to Montserrat are required to quarantine, including their family members, if they are staying in the same household.

So far, 719 persons have been tested for Covid-19.

The last positive case of the virus was recorded in July this year.

As of December 26, all persons travelling to Montserrat will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

The decision was made in Cabinet, in light of concerns regarding a new variant of COVID-19 which Health Experts say can spread more quickly than prior strains of the virus.

Except for those classes of people who are specifically exempted, all other individuals arriving in Montserrat must quarantine for the full 14 days, including those staying in Government approved quarantine facilities.
