Montserrat to Join Regional Observance of CARICOM Energy Month During November
Montserrat will be joining the regional observance of CARICOM Energy Month come November.
The Energy Unit, in the Ministry of Communication, Works, Energy and Labour will be conducting a number of activities during the month, to not only demonstrate the importance of renewable energy resources through theoretical examples, but also via hands-on experiences.
CARICOM Energy Month (CEM) is an annual event aimed at improving persons’ awareness, and demonstrating the importance of sustainable, secure and affordable energy.
Director of Energy, Kenrick Burke notes that this form of capacity building, especially with the youth, is critical to achieve the energy goals set out for Montserrat.
The activities for CARICOM Energy Month will begin on Sunday November 1st with a Church Service at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Look Out.
This will be followed by an opening address by the Minister of Energy, Dr. the Hon. Samuel Joseph on Monday November 2nd to declare the month of activities officially open.
Activities during the month will also include logo, poster, poetry and video competitions.
Throughout the Caribbean, different initiatives are being conducted to improve energy efficiency and increase the penetration of renewable energy (RE).
