Marine Officers Successfully Complete Navigation Course
The Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) continues to build the capacity of its members to operate the new marine patrol vessel, the Heliconia Star.
Nine officers have successfully completed a three week training course in radar navigation and plotting. According to reports, their performances were outstanding achieving an average pass rate of 90 per cent.
The training was facilitated by Kyle Shaw and Christopher Murray from the Caribbean Maritime University in Jamaica.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Charles Thompson says the training is critical to the management and operations of the vessel, which was only recently acquired.
He told ZJB News that it was also an opportunity to upgrade the skills of officers to better serve Montserrat and provide security at the borders.Mr. Thompson says the training was an initiative by the Commissioner of Police to ensure that all officers are trained to operate the Heliconia Star.
