£21 million Berthing Facility To Accommodate Cruise Ships

The £21 million pound breakwater and berthing facility in Little Bay will more than adequately accommodate small cruise ships.

However, Project Coordinator Rolando Kassie says although not the target, the berthing facility will also be able to dock larger vessels.

As Kassie explained, the construction of the breakwater and berthing facility is the first phase of a larger plan for the development of the Port.

The Port Development Project will be funded in the amount of 21 million pounds or 88 million EC dollars.The Government of Montserrat was able to secure funding from the Caribbean Development Bank through the UK CIF fund in the amount of 14.4 million pounds.

The remaining 7 million pounds are secured through the European Development Fund 11 (EDF11) programme.
