Department of Environment Starts Pilot Project To Rid the Island of the Invasive Red Fire Ants

The Department of Environment (DoE) is reaching out to the public for assistance to help control the Invasive Red Fire Ants.

The DoE is piloting a follow-up exercise, a two-step method, to rid the island of the imported pest.

Environment Technician in the DoE, Stephen Mendes, says it is unlikely that the ants would be totally eradicated, but their control requires a coordinated effort.

Mr. Mendes says that in order to control of the Fire Ants, residents must keep their surrounding clean from litter, bottle, cans and stagnant water.
