Liquor License Holders Legally Obligated to Cease Operations on Good Friday

The Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) is reminding all liquor licence holders of their legal obligation to cease operations on specific public holidays.

As the island prepares to observe Good Friday on April 18th, shop and bar owners are reminded of the recently amended Public Holiday Act (Amendment 2024).

Under Section 10 of the updated legislation, shops, may open on public holidays, except for those listed in subsection (2), or on any day designated as a public holiday under Section 8(a), unless otherwise specified in a proclamation.

The law specifically prohibits the operation of liquor-licensed establishments on Good Friday, National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving and Christmas Day

In a post to their social media page, the RMPS encouraged all liquor businesses to comply with national regulations tied to cultural and religious observances.
