Former MNT Youth Coordinator Urges Supportive Approach to Engaging Youth
A youth advocate here is encouraging adults and organisations to be more intentional about how they engage with young people on Montserrat.
Former Youth Coordinator at the Montserrat National Trust, Sandrae Thomas, shared key insights from his time working with Monty’s Ambassadors, an environmental group under the Trust catered for the island’s youth.
Speaking to ZJB News on his time at the Trust, he said the success of the programme was rooted in young people feeling a sense of ownership and being recognised for their contributions.
He encouraged other departments and community organisations to avoid generalisations about youth disinterest and instead focus on creating safe, supportive spaces that allow young people to be themselves while offering guidance.
