The UK Government Commits to Continue Funding Despite Montserrat’s High Income Classification
The United Kingdom has committed to continuing funding for Montserrat, despite the island being set to be reclassified as a high-income country.
Deputy Director of the Overseas Territories, Adam Pile confirmed this at the Budget Support Mission press conference last week.
Montserrat’s graduation from receiving Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the UK and reclassification as a high-income country, means that the island will need to apply for funding on a case-by-case basis, competing with local UK councils and other Overseas Territories for financial resources.
Pile said that the UK government have been very clear that funding will continue for Montserrat.
