Ministry of Agriculture Observed World Wetlands Day 2025
The Ministry of Agriculture observed World Wetlands Day 2025 on Sunday.
World Wetlands Day is celebrated February 2 annually. This year’s theme, “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”, underscoring the urgency to protect natural habitats such as wetlands.
This year, the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention of Wetlands- COP15 will take place July 23 to 31 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Government representatives meet every three years for this conference to facilitate crucial discussion on the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands and to agree on a suitable program for the next three years.
Meantime… The ministry is calling on interested parties to submit images that showcase the diversity and importance of wetlands.
The submission is open to all ages and these photos should illustrate wetlands as essential resources for livelihoods.
Recreation and sporting activities are also encouraged, highlighting the important ways these ecosystems support people and biodiversity.
The Secretariat will review all submissions, with selected photos being showcased in the exhibition. A distinguished jury, comprised of four judges, will evaluate the photos based on creativity, relevance to wetland conservation and visual impact.
The deadline date for these submissions is February 28, 2025.
