Government Signs Landmark EC$100 Million Contract for New Hospital
In a landmark move, the Government of Montserrat has officially signed the 100 million EC dollar contract for a new Hospital.
The contract was won by Construction and Industrial Equipment Limited (CIE) from St Lucia after what has been described as a lengthy process.
A ceremony to mark the milestone event was held on Friday, featuring Governor Her Excellency Sarah Tucker, Premier, the Honourable Reuben T Meade, Minister for Health Dr., the Honourable Ingrid Buffonge, and Managing Director of CIE Rayneau Gajadhar.
Governor Tucker in her remarks hailed the signing of the contract saying the hospital is a cornerstone of the island’s healthcare reform.
While acknowledging the challenges which have delayed the project, Governor Tucker stressed the importance of preparation to ensure success.

Premier, the Honourable Reuben T Meade focused on the importance of local involvement in the construction process, emphasizing that the EC$100 million project must serve as both a healthcare and economic development milestone for the island.
He urged the contractors to prioritize local resources, including the use of Montserratian labor, materials, and suppliers.
He also called on CIE to partner with the government to train young Montserratians in construction trades.

Meantime, Managing Director of CIE Rayneau Gajadhar expressed confidence in delivering the project on time and to the highest standards.

The hospital, a key component of the UK-funded Capital Investment Programme for Economic Growth (CIPREG), is expected to be completed within two years.
