No New Cases of Human Metapneumovirus On Montserrat
The Ministry of health is reporting that there are no new cases of human metapneumovirus- HMPV on Montserrat.
In confirming the latest report, Health Promotions Coordinator, Penny Maloney, states that the virus is not new or unusual to the island.
She revealed that cases were first recorded in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Health Promotions Coordinator adds that testing at the lab happens regularly and there are some cases of influenza and COVID-19.
Mrs Maloney, however, outlines that none of these are severe cases.
She is also reminding the public that HMPV is a regular virus, and despite what is being reported on social media, the World Health Organization and the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention have indicated that there has not been a spike in cases of the virus in the country.
The Montserrat public is reminded that the cold and flu season is still ongoing, and that residents should continue to practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of germs.
