Opposition Leader Advocates for Adjustment in the Income Tax Threshold

Leader of the parliamentary Opposition, Honourable Paul Lewis is advocating for a further adjustment in the income tax threshold as a measure to help people cope with the high-cost of living in what he describes as this “volatile economic climate.”

The government of Montserrat recently announced an adjustment from $15,000 to $18,000, but, Mr Lewis states that inflation has eroded the spending power of individuals, leaving them in even more vulnerable situations.

He feels that further pushing the threshold to $24,000 will make it more comfortable for the working-class on island to survive.
