Government of Montserrat Allocates Money for Maintenance of Government Buildings

The government of Montserrat hopes to put a dent in the long list of buildings in need of maintenance here.

2 million dollars will be spend this year to deal with the upkeep of government assets.

Premier the Honourable Joseph Farrell says the additional spending is to ensure the effective delivery of public services, to support economic development, to promote safety and security and to save costs in the long run.

He says the funds also helps to plug an immediate maintenance gap, while the government builds the case for much needed future investment in this area.

Deputy Premier, Dr. the Honourable Samuel Joseph says the entire maintenance backlog, is estimated to cost millions of dollars in total.

He says the funds allocated this year will be used to fix the Brades Primary School, the St. Johns Clinic, the fire station, the court house building, the muli-purpose sports center and the Montserrat Cultural Center.
