Education Leaders in Montserrat Encourage Student Interest in the Teaching Profession
Leaders in the education sector on Montserrat want to build students’ interest in the teaching profession.
On the radio programme MSS: Embracing Quality Education, the guidance counselor at the Montserrat Secondary School, Vandina St. Helair addressed the apparent lack of interest in the profession.
She compared the current interest with past performance, where students sometimes taught right after leaving school.
Vice principal at the MSS, Hyacinth Bramble Browne, believes that students may not have an interest in the sector unless they are exposed to it. She also spoke about her experience in the teaching profession.
Director of education, Dr. Gregory Julius who was a guest on the show also shared his experience in teaching, with the hope that more persons would become interested in the profession.
Dr. Julius taught at the primary level for several years before becoming director.
