Former Speaker Questions CARICOM's Effectiveness On Integration
Former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Shirley Osborne is among those questioning the effectiveness of the CARICOM Community CARICOM.
Her frustration stems from a lack of progress on the full free movement of persons , due to come into effect on Friday March 29, 2024.
Osborne, the co-host of Territories Talk, put it to Antigua’s Ambassador Clarence Henry that CARICOM as an institution is has not achieved its purpose on this issue.
The free movement of nationals is part of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) that allows for the free movement of goods, skills, labour and services across the Community.
The Free Movement of Skills/Labour entails the right of a CARICOM national to seek work and/or engage in gainful employment in all CARICOM member states with the exception of The Bahamas, Montserrat, and Haiti without the need to obtain a work permit.
