International Observer Mission Highlights Montserrat’s Election Process but sees Areas for Improvement
The International Observer Mission has given high marks to the election process on Montserrat.
In its initial report following the October 24, 2024 poll, the mission outlined several successes during the electoral exercise and highlighted some areas that could benefit from review and subsequent training.
Anguilla’s Honourable Shelia Rogers-Webster was the Head of the Observer mission and she explains their take on the election process.
Meantime, the particular areas that could benefit from remedial action as outlined by the mission, are the voter registration process overall, a review of candidate eligibility, the regulations of campaign financing, and political party registration.
Election analysts with the observer mission Armin Rabitch of Austria and Spain’s Mercie Castills challenged the new United Alliance government with the task of ensuring the enhancement of the electoral process through possible electoral reform.
