Premier Farrell Calls for Measure to Protect Region from Natural and Technological Hazards

OECS Chairman and Montserrat’s premier, the Honourable Joseph Farrell, has made a strong case for resilience measures to be adopted to safeguard the Sub-region from natural and technological hazards.

He was at the time delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the workshop on ‘mainstreaming the human security approach in Disaster Displacement and Environmental Migration policies in OECS member states, in St Lucia Tuesday morning

Premier Farrell highlighted that tropical events in particular are becoming more ferocious leading to significant economical and social losses and the need for resilience measures to be implemented.


He therefore emphasized the importance of acknowledging the human side of natural disasters as they do not just deprive citizens of their livelihoods but also cost significant loss of lives among other fall outs.

Premier Farrell also touched on the peculiar challenge posed by environmental migration
