Premier Farrell Addresses the Process of Selecting a New Deputy Governor for Montserrat
The issue of a new deputy governor for Montserrat has come into the spotlight in recent time with the process of selection generating much debate.
This matter came to the fore during Tuesday’s sitting of the Legislative Assembly at the Montserrat Cultural Centre in Little Bay.
Responding to a question posed by the opposition leader as to how the selection process is conducted, Premier the Honourable Joseph Farrell started out by explaining the role of the committee which is responsible for the selection.
The advert for the recruitment of the New Deputy Governor was placed on the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) portal opening up the application to UK, EU and other citizens.
The Montserrat Constitution Order 2010 states that the deputy governor must be a Montserratian.
Premier Farrell was called upon to explain the relevance of opening up the application to citizens other than Montserratians.
