Improper Garbage Disposal Threatens Montserrat's Marine Environment

The threat posed to the marine environment by litter has caught the attention of the Environmental Health Department.

Environmental Health Officer Diedre Allen says the litter was being washed into the sea from onshore.

Hundreds of pounds of litter have been taken off the sea bed in recent times, and Ms. Allen believes this is the result of bad garbage disposal practices.

Allen says the responsibility should lie with homeowners to dispose of their garbage properly.
