Montserrat's Youth Parliament Sworn In

With the usual pomp and ceremony, a 14-member body representing Montserrat’s Youth Parliament was sworn in on March 27 at the Montserrat Cultural Centre in Little Bay on Sunday.

And, the Speaker of Legislative Assembly Charliena White presided over the ceremony until the new youth Speaker was sworn in.

In her address, Ms White encouraged the youth parliamentarians to conduct themselves in a manner that will inspire others and to show themselves strong as future leaders of Montserrat.

Meantime, new Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Shanique Hoyte, says she hoping the youth body will be able to contribute meaningfully to the social and economic change of Montserrat, and would lead more young people lend their voice to political matters.

In her address, Youth Premier, Claribel Figueroa, also addressed the youth parliament lamenting that the youth should have a voice and input in implementing policies of a country... highlighting that giving voice to young people in big matters can make a big difference.

And Opposition Youth leader, Alana Kassie, in her remarks, said her four-member-strong team was ready to keep the government in check.
