Continued Concerns Over the Operations of the Montserrat Social Security Scheme

Leader of the Opposition the Honourable Paul Lewis expressed concern this week of the annual deficit which is hampering the operations of the Montserrat Social Security Scheme.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly Mr. Lewis says the deficit is eating away at the Social Security Servings and the pension fund is projected to run out of cash by 2025.

He pressed the government to take action.

Premier Joseph Farrell agreed that the pension fund is under duress and stated that the government will act to help solve the problem.

Premier Farrell says savings from the 2021-22 budget would also be used to fund a consultancy into the problems plaguing the Montserrat Utilities Limited.
