Montserrat Youth Parliament Debate on Lowering Voting Age
Members of the Montserrat Youth Parliament met on Monday to debate whether lowering the voting age would be beneficial to the island.
Arguments were made on the merrits of moving the voting age to 16 years old, citing the Elections Amendment (Voting Age) Bill 2022.
Deputy Premier, St. Luke Le Blanc, and his team said that lowering the voting age would improve voting habits, establish a connection between voters and politicians and increase voter turnout.

However Opposition Leader, Alana Kassie, argued that many teens may not be prepared psychologically to take on the additional responsibility of voting.
