Montserrat Observes World Diabetes Day

Montserrat joined the world, on Monday, in celebrating World Diabetes Day.

The World Health Organization says the Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes as a global public health issue.

It says the Day also highlights what needs to be done, collectively and individually, for better prevention, diagnosis and management of the condition.

This year’s theme, ‘access to diabetes education’, underpins the larger multi-year theme of 'access to care'.

Valerie Lewis Lynch, retired nurse and former President of the Diabetes Association.

Meantime, a new report by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) says the number of people with diabetes in the Caribbean, has more than tripled in three decades.

PAHO released “Panorama of Diabetes in the Americas”, ahead of World Diabetes Day on Monday.
