Camille Thomas Gerald Pleased With Progress on Hospital Project
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Social Services, Camille Thomas Gerald, is pleased with the progress that is being made on the New Montserrat Hospital Project.
Gerald says the designers, Article 25, have successfully engaged with the various stakeholders including personnel from the Ministry of Health, the Project Management Office, various other Government Departments and external partners such as Montserrat Utilities Limited.
She says the resulting hospital floor plan designs and programme development details give the Ministry confidence that its requirements will be translated into reality, allowing a modern hospital that is fit for purpose for facilitating quality health service transformation in Montserrat, whilst meeting international standards.
Meantime the Programme Management Office (PMO) has given a timeline for the completion of the new hospital.
The updated layout will be completed by next month, and detailed designs by April 2023.
Enabling works and demolitions are scheduled to take place from June to November with the start of construction set to begin in November.
The target date for completion is September 2025.
According to the PMO, the Scope of Works for the development of the New National Hospital will entail completion of detailed design, refit of Margetson Memorial Home for temporary decant of services from rear of hospital site, move of services to decant solution, early enabling works, and demolition to prepare site for construction, procurement of construction provider, construction, and occupation.
Construction of the new facility at the rear of the existing St John’s hospital site will now be completed in a simpler, single phase.
The New National Hospital Project is funded by investment from the Capital Investment Programme for Resilient Economic Growth.
The implementing agencies from the Government of Montserrat are the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management, Project Management Office.
