Port Development to Potentially Provide Windfall for Montserrat’s Economy

The Port Development Project could potentially provide a significant windfall for the Montserrat economy.

That’s according to team leader at Stantec Consulting International, Harold Westerman.

Westerman was speaking at a town hall meeting on Tuesday to update residents on the Environment and Social Impact Assessment and the Resettlement Action Plan.

Westerman says the project will generate opportunities for local businesses, suppliers, heavy equipment operators and skilled and unskilled workers.

The next stage of the 21.4 million pound Project is the collection of bids in July, followed by the awarding of contracts before September 30th.

Westerman says once the contract is signed, the contractor would have 18 months to design and build the facility.
