Labour Commissioner Powers Increased

The powers of the Labour Commissioner have been increased.

The Legislative Assembly, this week, passed an amendment to the Labour Code that gives officials in the Labour Department to carry out inspections of work sites at any time.

Minister of Labour Dr. the Honourable Samuel Joseph says this was to ensure that businesses adhere to the labour code.

Meantime, another amendment to the labour code prevents employees from terminating employees on the grounds of sickness.
