Development Project Moves Closer to Detailed Design & Construction Contract

The Programme Management Office announced that the project has successfully moved into the final tendering stage for its detailed design and construction contract.

The deadline for submissions is 19th April 2021.

Last year, the Project completed its rigorous Pre-Qualification Process, resulting in the shortlisting of five prospective bidders now eligible to submit proposals.

This major Project, which aims to provide a new jetty for improved sea access and cargo operations, is funded by the UK Caribbean Infrastructure Partnership Fund (UKCIF) as well as the European Union Development Fund.

The UKCIF fund is facilitated by the Caribbean Development Bank.

The Project is being implemented by the Ministry of Communication, Works, Labour and Energy, supported by the Programme Management Office and Procurement team.

The Montserrat Port Development Project will entail a combined offshore breakwater and berth structure; a ramp for roll-on / roll-off cargo; approximately 75m of breakwater protection along the sea-side of the berth, with access to shore via a causeway.

The completion of the Project will allow for the safe reception of cargo vessels, cruise ships, and ferries, which are currently restricted by rough seas, limited capacity for berthing, and insufficient water depths.

The Project will also allow for improved container handling and will help meet the growing demands of the Port.
